Inauguration of ‘The Nehru Imprint'
Nehru Memorial Museum and Library
1 November 2009
To commemorate the 120th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) is hosting a range of activities this November. The inauguration of this celebration, entitled 'The Nehru Imprint', was held on 1 November 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the NMML auditorium.
The day kicked off with the screening of the film, Nehru (1983) directed by renowned Indian film-maker Shyam Benegal and Russian director Yuri Aldokhin. Combining rare archival footage and still photographs, the film completely enthralled the audience, mostly children. Given the length of the film, the part which traced the evolution of Nehru from his early years to his participation in the Indian national movement was shown. This was followed by a discussion conducted by Jaya Iyer, coordinator of the Children Resource Center, NMML. Children from different organizations such as Aasra, Integrated Community Development Program, Project Concern India, Saanjha Aadhar and Salaam Baalak Trust actively participated in the discussion.
The director, NMML, Mridula Mukherjee explained to the audience, the role and vision of Nehru during the struggle for independence, while promising that they would, in the near future, be able to view 'real' films of Nehru which are with the NMML and have been sent for restoration. Thereafter, all children were divided into various groups to participate in activities such as singing and poetry recital, painting, outdoor games, nature walks and so on. Lunch was organized for the participants in the Teen Murti lawns followed by distribution of certificates.
